No offense, but most of what you mention, except the corticosteroids, would help or be neutral to hip fractures, not harmful. For example, I’m pretty sure that physical activity would decrease, not increase hip fractures.

Perhaps on some. However, if you are more active, you are more likely to be in scenarios where you might fracture your hip. It's absolutely a confounding variable. If you are sedentary, you are less likely to be in situations that could result in a fall that would fracture your hip. This is a correlative study, not causative. Any significant confounding variable that is different between the groups can affect things. You also have the fact that the high B6/B12 group reported significantly more falls (37%) in the prior two years than the low B6/B12 groups. Wouldn't the fact that the high B6/B12 groups fell more frequently be an explanation for why they had more hip fractures? The low B6/B12 group also had lower instances of diabetes (21%) than the other groups. People with diabetes have a higher risk of bone fractures. Then you have the fact that people who have health issues are more likely to seek out and use supplements to help with those health issues. This confounds a lot of studies like this. If people who are having more health issues generally use more supplements, it can create a correlation between vitamins in those supplements and instances of adverse events. However, it is not really a causative effect between the supplements themselves causing the adverse events. It's an artifact of the fact that people who are generally naturally healthy are less likely to even use supplements at all. In this study, the people in the high B6/B12 group had 22% higher instance of reporting their health status as not excellent, so they could just be less healthier in general than the low B6/B12 group. So I am not saying there is for sure no link there. I am just saying this specific study is not controlled enough to convince me of anything yet.
