Edit: Check out MYASD's reply. Tl;dr is it's super shitty timing but their costs went up a lot so it sucks for everyone, no shadiness here.
I had my cart already picked out ahead of the sale (lol) and I just went in to add one more thing I forgot and noticed that a large number of items went up in price, some of them by a good bit too.

Not a tin foil hat guy, but is this possibly sort of a plan to consolidate companies and power? And how hard can the bottom blow out?

I don't think it was preplanned. However, you can be damn sure that they are leveraging it to their advantage now. This pandemic has been one of the largest transfers of wealth in human history. The amounts of wealth accumulating at the top are pretty staggering. What else can you expect when you put that much money into the economy without a place for it to go? It's going to flow into assets that people think will make them a return. The ones that owned the assets before it all started are the ones that benefit the most from the inflated asset pricing. It basically injected steroids into the already increasing wealth accumulation that was happening before.
How hard can it fall? Who knows. I think that's the fear about raising rates. They want to try and juice the economy and hope it evens out somewhat before slowly backing back out again, but I just don't see how that is going to be possible.
