Is it true ND lion's mane is no good because it's not an alcohol extract?

And it is optimized for beta-glucan. That beta-glucan has no effect on NGF or cognition.

Is this true? If it is what a shame bc I just started my ND LM like 10 days ago.

Thanks. So does the 1:1 effect NGF? And now that I have you here... I had been feeling a bit light-headed since I started the LM. Today I didn't take it and I don't feel light-headed. Any idea why taking LM made me feel light-headed?

Edit: and if it does effect NGF does it effect it as much as the 8:1?

There are no human studies regarding lion's mane and NGF. So we cannot say for sure if any of them affect NGF in human brains. It's all speculation based off animal studies and ones dealing with mouse astroglial cells in vitro. Do we even want strong NGF effects in the brain? I am not sure, as there are no human studies on it yet. Maybe we do. However, we should avoid making strong statements one way or another till we have scientific data to back it up.

Many people do say that only erinacines have NGF effects, but a 1991 study showed hericenones did, too.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0040403991800399

The study most people reference for evidence that they don't is this one:

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/21501201003735556

Then you have this one that showed hericenones F, G and H stimulated NGF. Those are different than the usual hericenones people look at C, D and E.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/003194229280127Z

So the science is not settled, and we still do NOT have reference standards for any of these hericenones or erinacines. So it is very very hard to confirm any of these research paper's findings in the lab. Who knows, we might eventually find erinacines are in the fruiting bodies as well. It's either that, or the hericenones are affecting NGF, or the beneficial mechanism for cognition and mood is something other than NGF. The human clinical research used whole fruiting bodies. So there is something in there causing the benefits. Anyone saying we know for sure what those are and how they are working in the brain is not being scientifically honest.

As far as being light-headed, it is hard to say without wild speculation. It could be coincidence. It could be just your personal reaction to it. It's hard to say. Erinacine E is a kappa opioid agonist. So that might cause some effects like that. However, if you believe our competitors statements there are NO erinacines in our product. So that can't be it! LOL. I say that in jest. It could certainly be it, and everyone is wrong about the erinacine in fruiting bodies thing. Till I have reference standards I can't say for sure. I am working on it, though.

Replying to eclecticlove1 · So where do you get the powder for the 8:1 dual phase extract?

We have our own suppliers, just like we do for all our ND branded products. They make it to our specifications. Then we test them in our lab for ID, content, beta-glucans, heavy metals, and now residual solvent residues.

Why the lion's mane you're buying is probably bunk.

First off, our Lion's Mane is not a traditional water extract. The water is used to break down the chitin in the cell walls, but the entire mushroom material is kept in. So you don't lose anything that you would with a f
