Bacopa Monnieri - Standardised extracts (e.g Synapsa) and HPLC measurements

Hello,

I was wondering the following. Most studies on Bacopa use the Synapsa variant and state a dose of ~300mg with 50-55% bacosides.

Now, considering that that bacoside percentage is derived NOT through the accurate HPLC measurement but through UV-spectrophotometry, one can easily demonstrate that e.g Synapsa is, in fact, NOT 50-55% Bacosides but more like ~8% (for an example, see here).

Due to this, if one were to buy a product that claims 50% bacosides by HPLC, would it be reasonable to lower the bacopa recommended dosage by 5 times? So, instead of 300mg used in studies, the HPLC-measured variant would only be 60mg.

A second question I have is this: considering it's the same herb, how is it possible that some people have experienced problems with the non-Synapsa version of Bacopa? What could the Synapsa version have that the "generic" bacopa doesn't that could cause different reactions in the same person?

It's at our facility and I believe approved and out of testing in the lab. We ordered the labels last week. So hopefully those arrive soon and we can get the bottles into production.

This is why it is nice that we print all ND labels in-house. We can rapidly release things once they are made and out of testing. We have to wait to print the labels to make sure everything went well with encapsulation and that we did not need to change excipients. Most places don't do that. They make the labels for what they think the final formulation will be, and just leave off any last minute changes to the capsules. We know better. One batch of ingredient might be fluffier or denser than the last time, which affects how we formulate the capsules to contain the correct amount of actives. With ND we can change things just before we print, then put them into production later that day or early next, since we print the labels ourselves. Natrium we have professionally printed, so we have to wait to finalize things till the capsule run is done, then wait for the printing company to finish. However, the Natrium labels are really nice with foil that shows through and laminated to not be sticky on people's hands. So I think the extra hassle is worth it.
