Does D3 benefit from a specialized delivery, or a particular type of lipid? Seems to be especially synergistic with chocolate.

I had hoped NSF and USP at least guaranteed that the main ingredient is actually in the supplement. Now getting all hung up on excipients like croscarmellose sodium—appears useful for absorption but need to research less pleasant effects it could have

Well NSF certification would mean the company at least has a reasonable process to assess the ingredient. However, they make no effort to ensure the validity of the methodology used. That would have to be more ISO 17025. That would be what the lab would be certified for. They still don't assess your methodologies directly. However, they do specify that you do validation on your methods. So while they are not personally ensuring things are right, they are ensuring you are validating things. Most regulations are just process-related. Seriously, before I got into this industry I thought things were very very different. However, regulators are really just assessing if you put proper procedures in place and are documenting things.
