Follow-Up Thread: My Experience With Epitalon

Original post in this thread

I wanted to go ahead and post a thread for the continued discussion of multiple comment trees in the recently-archived "My Experience With Epitalon" thread started by /u/telomerotica.

A quick iteration of the topics still under discussion:

* Without doubt the most interesting detail from the original thread is telomerotica's use of a telomere length test conducted by the company Titanovo, which he had used to evaluate his undergoing 5 different cycles of different types of Epitalon. His results came back saying he had the telomeres of a 10-year-old.
* /u/Telomerotica has plans to get another, follow-up test from Titanovo in order to confirm the accuracy of their results. Link.
* /u/MisterYouAreSoDumb had Titanovo tests conducted on him and a few of his employees and is currently awaiting results. One of the employees smokes and the other does not, so it will be a very interesting comparison. Link.

The number of major life changes and destructive behaviors that I've had in the past several years is insane. I don't know how much I'd have left. Are there any studies on children taking ADHD medication? I never considered the carcinogenic effects that might produce in advanced age.

But, amphetamines haven't been approved for use in children until the mid '90s, so there aren't any people in advanced age to take that from.

There are meth heads, though. Talk about premature aging. I'm sure that has to do with telomere shortening, although I doubt there would be studies on that sort of thing.

Drug abuse is definitely correlated with shorter telomere lengths.

http://www.nature.com/articles/srep01542

I've used kratom a lot the past few years. That could be a factor in all this as well. One interesting thing I saw in that study is that stress was not correlated to telomere length. That only has relevance to drug users, but I found that interesting. The ones reporting more stress did not necessarily have shorter telomeres.

Another interesting tidbit:

Depressant drugs were associated with a shorter LTL (P = 0.038), whereas there was no significant association of the LTL with stimulant drugs (P = 0.525). Furthermore, we discovered negative correlations of the LTL with heroin (P = 0.018) and diazepam (P = 0.009) in the addiction cohort, while tramadol (P = 0.051) and triazolam (P = 0.086) users tended to display a shorter LTL, while drug abusers taking ketamine (P = 0.094) tended to exhibit a longer LTL.
