What causes DXM's afterglow effect?

Serotonin? Opioid receptors interactions? Upregulation after NMDA antagonism? Something else?

Maybe there'll be some combination of supplements I can take to mimic/recreate this effect.

The sigma-1 receptor is so fascinating. It's almost like the pathway to awe, I think. Gosh, that would be difficult to design an experiment around. Do they have means of gauging awe in other creatures, perhaps primates?

Not really sure how you would measure that at all, in humans or other primates, other than a survey.
