Benzyl Chloroformate decomposes in water into HCl, CO2, and Benzyl Alcohol, phosgene decomposes in water into HCl and CO2. You'll only get released phosgene gas if you heat the compound. Otherwise there is no problemo. You can look under reactivity profile on this page.

Ohh, ok. So if you keep the temperature down, it will only release HCL fumes. Still dangerous, but not as bad as phosgene. I would think a rotary evaporation would be better to get rid of the residue, though. It's boiling point is much lower than MK-677.
