It's interesting that ashwagandha reduces anxiety yet there was a thread a week or 2 ago where people were talking about it causing overactive thyroid function in some people. Usually one thinks of something that boosts the thyroid as increasing anxiety. I may be wrong on that. I don't know. It's just an interesting method of action how ashwagandha works. It seems a rather complicated supplement.

Stress actually causes hypothyroidism, meaning lowering thyroid function. Ashwagandha can increase T3 and T4 in people with low function, but actually lower it in people with high function. So it is more of a regulator. It also regulates cortisol/prolactin, and prevents lipid peroxidation.
