Lion's Mane

What is your experience with various brands? I am currently taking the Host Defense brand, but I can't say I feel any benefits. I have tried various dosages: 1 gram, 2 grams, and even 3 grams (which is not sustainable due to cost). I would like to try another brand; I would love some recommendations for quality extracts.

Host Defense is crap. It's not even actual mushroom fruiting bodies. It is made from mycelium, which is much cheaper to produce. It also does not contain nearly as much beta-glucans as the actual mushroom would. That's because it is mostly starch. They even grind up the brown rice used as the substrate for it. You can see it on their label!

The FDA even says you cannot call a mycelium product a mushroom: http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/ComplianceManuals/CompliancePolicyGuidanceManual/ucm074627.htm

I actually just got off the phone today with a mushroom expert talking about all this, and how the medicinal mushroom industry is rife with fake product right now. I am going to bring out a whole mushroom line because of it. I hate ineffective BS being sold to people. It makes the whole industry suffer, because people think things are not effective. I've even wasted my own money on Host Defense before. So dumb.

This is part of the wholesale price list for "Nammex", the supplier of mushroom powders that many companies repackage/encapsulate and sell for a huge profit margin

Replying to eclecticlove1 · So where do you get the powder for the 8:1 dual phase extract?

We have our own suppliers, just like we do for all our ND branded products. They make it to our specifications. Then we test them in our lab for ID, content, beta-glucans, heavy metals, and now residual solvent residues.

Why the lion's mane you're buying is probably bunk.

First off, our Lion's Mane is not a traditional water extract. The water is used to break down the chitin in the cell walls, but the entire mushroom material is kept in. So you don't lose anything that you would with a f

We are absolutely NOT done with new products. We are in the thick of development for a bunch of them. Some of them are just taking longer than expected to get perfect, so we have had a lull in releases. That's just becau
