Racetams and Libido

Throwaway for some obvious reasons but I am generally pretty active around here. This is also not a joke, and there are some relatively graphic but relevant descriptions here.
I took my first foray into noots with some piracetam two summers ago. It was interesting; I felt an improvement in my cognitive function, definitely saw the color enhancement that people often discuss associated with racetams, etc. etc. One odd side effect that I noticed was that it seemed to mess with my ability to get erections (at age 21 no less). I still had the same sex drive, but I would sort of just lose a boner mid-jacking off even if watching porn. Orgasms were a bit odd too - I wouldn't really "shoot" like I used to, and it didn't feel as good or as intense. I probably should have cut it out there, but I just thought it was an odd side effect that would go away when I stopped taking it, and I was interested in the cognitive improvements.
A few months later I got a girlfriend. My sex drive was no problem; we would have sex 1-2 times a day. Again, it was a bit weird though: I would cum not that hard, sort of keep a boner, and be able to keep going. She actually commented on how she couldn't tel…

Yeah, I noticed that as well with piracetam and oxiracetam. After a while, you are content with less sexual stimulation. In the beginning it seems to enhance it. Then after a while it seems to go the other direction. Unfortunately I do not have an answer to the mechanism. It would be interesting to have a racetam-naieve person do bloodwork, then start using piracetam, and continue to do bloodwork for a few months. I would be curious id there is any change in testosterone levels. Since we know piracetam affects the adrenergic system, it could very well be leading to down-regulation, consequently causing sexual issues. We know that adrenergic antagonists affect male sexual function. If piracetam is positively modulating it, that would account for the increase in sexual function in the beginning. Then if there is a consequent down-regulation happening, that would account for the lowering seen in chronic use.
