New Tianeptine Studies

Original post in this thread

I am interested to hear your opinions about the new studies showing that tianeptine is a full agonist at the mu and delta opioid receptors

My reaction was somewhat mixed when I read about it. As someone who takes tianeptine for depression, I am very interested in the studies about it. I began using as an adjunct to an ssri, and I can say it gives me a really nice mood lift and helps me focus and relax. However I saw many people on drug forums discussing abusing it and comparing it to oxycodone, which bothered me somewhat because naturally most people would be weary of taking opioids

My questions are how does it change your view of the drug? For those of you who have taken other opiates, what is it comporable to in terms of mental and physical effects? And if it is very comparable to say, oxycodone or tramadol, how is its M.O.A different? Many of its effects have been known for years, such as the dopamine release and production of BDNF, most of which actually fit the mechanisms of opiates. So is Tianeptine just an opiate or are there other mechanisms too? I am very interested to hear other people's thoughts about this.

Three times less mu-opoid receptor affinity than codeine combined with daily use is still a recipe for disaster in the mid/long term (Source: several years of experience with weak opioids). There are far better ways of resolving depression.

The opioid effects only really come into play in higher doses. If you stick to 12.5mg doses, there is very little risk. As someone that has used many opioids, even daily for long periods, tianeptine is nothing compared to them.

You need to start tapering off it now! You are not using it properly, and are going to cause yourself harm. Tianeptine is hard on the liver at those dosages. It is not meant to be taken at 650mg/day. Your usage is irresp
