What does your doctor think of nootropics?

I have recently come to the conclusion that most doctors don't really know jack about nootropics. I tried to have an intelligent conversation with several general practitioners about piracetam, coluracetam, phenibut, adrafinil, etc, but they seemed to clump them all into a homeopathic-esque nonsense subcategory of supplements, writing it off as ineffectual and dangerous, apparently too busy to be bothered with minor research..
Anyway, as a medical student, I am curious about your experiences with doctors regarding the subject of nootropics. Any notable experiences? How could this dynamic be improved?

MAOIs like Rhodiola Rosea, and other catecholamine stimulants like Ephedrine and Theanine.

Whoah there, be careful recommending MAOIs and ephedrine along side amphetamines. That is dangerous! Rhodiola is fairly safe, but people could mistake you for saying all MAOIs. Plus, ephedrine is not good to take with amphetamine.
