What does your doctor think of nootropics?

I have recently come to the conclusion that most doctors don't really know jack about nootropics. I tried to have an intelligent conversation with several general practitioners about piracetam, coluracetam, phenibut, adrafinil, etc, but they seemed to clump them all into a homeopathic-esque nonsense subcategory of supplements, writing it off as ineffectual and dangerous, apparently too busy to be bothered with minor research..
Anyway, as a medical student, I am curious about your experiences with doctors regarding the subject of nootropics. Any notable experiences? How could this dynamic be improved?

Guess I am assuming the person has some common sense and uses lower doses than standalone. Most MAOIs can be relatively safe at the right dose. Course depends on your risk tolerance too. Amphetamines alone have risks. In regards to Ephedrine, I am thinking in terms of 4 minimum to 16mg maximum dosages. And I am not recommending that anyone do this, but rather mentioning ways that some people use to amplify the affect of amphetamine.

Never assume people use common sense. And we are really looking for ways to amplify effects without causing harm, or have very little risk. You could take MDMA along with amphetamine, and amplify the effects. However, nobody would mention that in a nootropic sense. The same should go for ephedrine. It is not safe to take at the same time as amphetamine.
