It's because you have to ingest a lot of plant material to get high dosages. Plus there are a lot of other alkaloids in it. If you got an extract tincture, it's a totally different ballgame.

Yeah, I am not sure if that is playing a huge role. It might be a minor one. But the glutamate modulation and BDNF seem to be the main neurogenetive mechanism with tianeptine. I do think kratom needs some more research.
