Nootropics

(/noʊ.əˈtrɒpɨks/ noh-ə-trop-iks), also referred to as smart drugs, memory enhancers, neuro enhancers, cognitive enhancers, and intelligence enhancers, are drugs, supplements, nutraceuticals, and functional foods that purportedly improve mental functions such as cognition, memory, intelligence, motivation, attention, and concentration.

In a recent article about Neuralstem, Dr. Johe was asked about the potential cognitive implications of our first in class neurogenic compound NSI-189. Although the drug is currently in trials to treat MDD (major depressive disorder), it was originally developed for the Defense Department as part of a program to enhance cognition (in that particular instance, in sleep deprived soldiers). In his answer Karl broadened the concept of cognitive enhancement, and introduced the idea of “anti-aging” of the brain.

This new class of potential drugs is widely referred to as nootropics. In a way, it is the perfect synthesis of regenerative medicine and human biology. As we age, it appears that we lose the ability to make as many “new” synaptic connections in the hippocampus, and in fact begin to lose the density of…

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I'm very interested for personal usage and investing potential.

NSI-189 gave me a nice low-level mood increase for the first four weeks or so. Then I did not notice much for a week. Then about week five I started getting hyper-emotional. I had anxiety, and weird bouts of sadness. Like being overwhelmed, but for no logical reason. Another person put it well. It was like I was PMSing. I even cried a few times on it. After ceasing use, I was back to normal in two days.

I did not notice much, if any, cognitive increase on it. It was mostly just a low level mood increase. Frankly tianeptine is better at increasing mood, and more acute. NSI-189 seems like it could be good for some people with major depression. However, I do not think this is going to turn out to be the great cognitive enhancer that some are making it out to be.

I used both the phosphate salt and the freebase forms. I took 40mg, twice per day. I noticed no significant differences between the phosphate and freebase forms.

Expanding hippocompal volume with NSI-189 and Tianeptine.

We may be coming out with an NSI-189 analog soon. I am going to have such a large and sexy hippocampus.

Should I expect to "feel" something from a Nootropic?

For healthy people, most racetams are going to be subtle. However, a lot of people out there have anxiety, depression, lethargy, brain fog, etc. For those people, racetams can be very noticeable. Also, the newer racetam

What happened to NSI-189?

I like to store all nootropic powders in hand-sewn animal skin pouches. Nothing like the inside of a water buffalo to stabilize Tianeptine, let me tell you.

I would not call them that. Neuralstem is almost through FDA trials for NSI-189, so they are using the patent. Not sure about the Tianeptine Sulfate holders. However, it is a pretty recent patent. It will be years, if no

It's expensive. All the Tianeptine labs just raised prices for everyone across the board by 25-30%. However, we did not raise prices. We actually lowered sulfate pricing. The increase is because demand is outpacing suppl
