Is purchasing Adderall or methylphenidate from an online pharmacy a bad idea?

I see some online pharmacies that sell Adderall. Is it a bad idea to purchase it? How about generic methylphenidate?
I don't see how it can be legal, but I've seen online sites and pharmacies sell it.
I used to be prescribed it in school around 10 years ago and I'm considering going back on it. But before shelling out for a doctor's appointment, I want to take it for a week or so to see if it's still something that helps my productivity.
thanks!

Ok then, well for my knowledge, would you mind explaining why there is a difference between the wikipedia/~~faq~~Beginner's Guide to Nootropics definitions and what /u/misteryouaresodumb is trying to convey? I feel like we should all be on the same page here. If the ~~faq~~ Beginner's Guide to Nootropics needs to be edited, then it should be edited.
edit: I keep saying FAQ, what i really mean is "Beginner's Guide to Nootropics"

The Beginners Guide to Nootropics is not meant to tell you what is and what is not a nootropic. It is there to be a guide for beginners just starting to get into nootropics.
To be a true nootropic, a substance must have minimal side effects, very little tolerance buildup, enhance a cognitive process, and be extremely non-toxic or neuroprotective. Other substances can have nootropic qualities, but not be defined as a nootropic. This subreddit is dedicated to the discussion of nootropics, cognitive enhancers, and the like. Amphetamine would fall into the cognitive enhancer class. Methylphenidate is safer than amphetamine, but can still have side effects and tolerance. I would also consider that one to not be a strict nootropic.
