taurine? (apparently not "bull urine," but what else about it?)

The examine page offers the above clarification ;-) and describes "a wide variety of health benefits," but searching the archive here yields a small number of postings and mixed opinions. Am mostly interested in it for potential nootropic and/or mood effects. Anyone tried it? Benefits/side effects? In combination with other supps? Seems interesting but I can't tell how much bang for the buck.

Taurine + BCAA (branched chain amino acids) reduce muscle soreness and promote recovery after exercise.

I took some ephedrine, caffeine, taurine, L-arginine, L-theanine, BCAAs, whey protein, and creatine before hiking a mountain one day. My god, I flew up the side of that mountain like it was nothing. My muscles did not get fatigued, and my cardiovascular system did not even seem taxed. It was glorious!
The next day I really felt the after effects, though. It was funny walking for a few days.
