Coluracetam also does, as does PQQ, as does alpha-lipoic acid, as does CoQ10, as does... the list goes on a while.

Sure, but using different mechanisms. Memantine actually stops the influx of calcium. The others act on more downstream mechanisms, like ion efflux and binding to oxidative substances. Limiting the influx not only protects the neuron, but controls tolerance to the effects of certain drugs.
