Talking to a doctor about a modafinil prescription

Original post in this thread

I've recently gotten into nootropics after having terrible experiences with SSRI's. 5-HTP has helped me more than any anti-depressant ever did.

My only problem is that I suffer from terrible insomnia. I go for 2-4 days without sleeping. I've tried melatonin and that hasn't worked for me even at extremely high doses of 40mg. I'm seeing my doctor soon to see what he recommends to help improve sleep(he will probably prescribe me a small dose of ambien).
Well with this I wanted to ask my doctor about modafinil and see if he thinks it would help with my daily life seeing that I'm basically tired 24/7.

tl;dr If I ask my doctor about modafinil do you think he would prescribe it? I'm not certain doctors actually regularly prescribe modafinil so that's why I'm asking.

What they were answering

Can't express how grateful I am for the advice.

I'm on a keto diet right now so chicken is already a staple of my meal plan. Hopefully with the addition of bacopa I can finally get my head straight.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

What is the best nootropic for someone looking primarily for a boost of energy and motivation that's stronger than caffeine but less extreme than amphetamines?

6mg of melatonin is too much. I take .5-1mg. Melatonin has been shown to be much more effective at lower doses. Lower your dose and see how that works. 6mg would mean a very hard time waking up, and hours of foggyness in

Bacopa seems controversial here...

Replying to menkare · Thanks for reply ! But what's the difference ? If Bacopa decreases dopamine production while Modafinil is supposed to increase , it looks like they cancel each other effect at leas

Modafinil does not increase dopamine production. Modafinil blocks the dopamine transporter, increasing levels in the synapse for a short period. Production of dopamine itself is not changed.
