Why not meditate?

After reading through links and comments I find many people are concerned about safety. There doesn't seem to be a single substance that works on everyone so people are trying mixes. Some people are taking pictures posting to make sure their "substance" is legit. Apparently effects are subtle anyway. Some of the substances sold on amazon have either extremely positive reviews or extremely negative.
So after checking out the top posts, it seems about 10 months ago someone posted a study on meditation. Its the 9th top link of the year on this subreddit.
Of course I am speaking from an ignorant position having not tried nootropics but I would still like to reopen this comparison and ask if our goal is to enhance cognition and we have studies that show meditation does just this, why are we seeking substances?
Should I combine practices? Should we all?

Third is aniracetam with perhaps a little l-theanine too. Do your research on both of these, and keep in mind all the pitfalls of taking drugs to perform. They shouldn't lead to stopping performing in the long term like beta blockers, and are physically non addictive. That doesn't mean you won't get psychologically hooked and unable to perform without them, and in europe you need a script for aniracetam.
This is part of a response to someone asking which nootropics will help them with performance anxiety and it brings to the surface many concerns I also have.
First thing I notice is that some countries don't believe we should be taking some of these substances without a script. Second thing is that this commenter used nootropics as a last case scenario. And finally that her comment was second with only 4 points (not a big subreddit). I mention this because it shows there is indeed some concern to be had when ingesting anything.
There is also many other people here asking for relief and not just mere curiousity. As this commenter shows we may be doing many a disservice.
Now onto your main point of curiousity. I would like to say first because I am ignorant to the effect of nootropics I have chosen for the purpose of discussion to assume it works effectively. I did this because I did not want to make any unnecessary negative assumptions about anyone. I dont want anyone t…

Please, don't take my comment the wrong way. I do not believe there is nothing to learn from meditation. On the contrary, there is much to learn about yourself through it. However, it's a different type of knowledge.
I am speaking to scientific evidence for pharmacological mechanisms. I want to know on a cellular level how my brain is operating. Meditation will not help you to learn what activation of certain receptor sub-types does to you. However, it can help you to control your brain psychologically. My point was that I want more than to advance my psychological control of my brain. I want more than to merely achieve the results without knowing the pharmacological mechanisms that caused them. The puzzle is what brought me here, and it's what keeps me here.
Studying does not just mean observing one's self while on a substance. That is just what makes it interesting. I am interested in actual studies, and real knowledge. Feeling the subjective effects of said mechanisms is merely a bonus.
However, that is just my personal opinion. I'm sure there are others out there that are just looking for results, or relief.
