Hypomanic modafinil rebound

Original post in this thread

MisterYouAreSoDumb · 3 points

I had a very interesting interaction a couple days ago. I had been taking 75mg D-modafinil every day for 5 days, while ceasing my caffeine supplementation. I got back home from Thanksgiving in Colorado, and decided to drop the modafinil and return to my normal stack.

In the morning I took:

200mg caffeine

10mg noopept

500mg bacopa

120mg ginkgo

500mg ALCAR

150mg Na-R-ALA

200mg magnesium glycinate

200mg EGCG

500mg quercetin

sublingual B complex

1,600mg piracetam

Well this resulted in a first class ticket to hypomaniaville! It must have been a rebound effect from adding caffeine back in with the residual effects from the modafinil. I am pretty certain it has something do do with modafinil's induction of certain CYP450 enzymes. It was not unpleasant, and I was fully aware of what was going on. In fact, it was extremely enjoyable. I had dopamine/serotonin tingles shooting through my head all day long. It literally felt like I had taken MDMA. The next day I kept my stack exactly the same, but it did not lead to the same result. It worked, but more from a focused standpoint.

Anybody else have a similar effect from modafi…

200 mg caffeine is a hearty dose if you don't have a tolerance. As someone who uses caffeine once a week or so, 200 mg would elevate my mood pretty dramatically.

There's also a possibility of potentiation from piracetam (potentiates stimulants), ALCAR (acts largely as a stimulant, admittedly a weak and complex one, with additional non-stimulant effects), B (methylation can increase NT levels), and quercetin (has MAOI activity).

Yeah, but I take caffeine every day. I have a pretty good tolerance. The other supplements were part of my stack before modafinil. The only change was that I switched oxiracetam to piracetam, which should have less potentiation. I also had been taking modafinil for 5 days. I am pretty certain it was an interaction from having taken the modafinil.

That stack has been working very well for me, lowering stress and improving focus. Occasionally I get a little hypomanic and excited on it. However, nothing compared to this. I had full on head tingles throughout the whole day. If you can think of another explanation, please share it. I would be very surprised if it was the switch from oxiracetam to piracetam that did it, but who knows.
