Its been a while since anyone has posted about this but what do you guys honestly think of nicotine use (patch, gum, ecig, etc.) as a nootropic? What are the positives and negatives?

I'm on the same wavelength you are man :)
It is blatantly obvious why nicotine has notoriety around it since it was introduced in cigarettes, and it seems whenever anybody says MAOI (or even better MAO-A/B Inhibitor) they get upvotes at random. His comment was quite out of place, and equivalent to rubbing some irrelevant facts into my face.

Out of place? You said that you were unimpressed with the effects. Nicotine is an acetylcholine receptor agonist. It's effects are going to be mild at best, with higher doses causing adverse side effects. If it's blatantly obvious, why were you surprised by the less than impressive effects of nicotine gun? The other active substances present in tobacco are precisely the relevant facts. Next time I just won't comment, and people can just keep buying Nicorette for no reason.
