Its been a while since anyone has posted about this but what do you guys honestly think of nicotine use (patch, gum, ecig, etc.) as a nootropic? What are the positives and negatives?

I noticed a nice little bit of ocular contracton (the area beside the eyes on the outside) when the gum is in my mouth, and then increased focus thereafter; haven't noticed anything in regards to relaxation or anxiety though, just a small boost to motivation and attention.
To be honest, the effects are a lot less than I would have thought given the notoriety of nicotine; its a subtle boost at best. I've heard a friend describe it to me as 'Like modafinil, but weaker and shorter'.

The notoriety is due to the fact that most people smoke tobacco to get it. Tobacco smoke contains harman and norharman, which are monoamine oxidase inhibitors. This increases the extracellular dopamine, serotonin, and nor-epinephrine. This is why smoking is the preferred method of ingestion, and why there are more noticeable effects.
