Earth’s richest 1,000 individuals now control as much wealth as the poorest 2.5 billion people on the planet. This super elite uses its vast wealth to control the media, influence politicians, and bend laws to their favor.

Didn't mean to imply you didn't know Africa was a continent... thought it was a relevant point in the thread though as the OP listed Egypt and Africa as two place... yet Egypt is in Africa.

I meant to type South Africa. Johannesburg is where I saw some pretty bad areas. The ghettos from Apartheid are still everywhere, just like you see in District 9. Egypt's poverty was of a much different type. Cairo is more like Mexico City; very dense over a large area. The poverty arises from very different reasons. My point was that I saw poverty on a much more widespread and severe level than you would ever see in the US.
