Thats fair enough, but i ment for the in vitro studies, it does not make sense to use a "pro-drug" with a bulky side chain. However, i think most if not practically every study ive seen on for example hericenones thats in vitro has not had any pretreatment done on it, and when the whole extract is used there is no separating which compound is responsible for what effect.
Basically, for in vitro studies it would be cool to see how different the "end products" are from the bioactives that have been tested so far. Im not sure how you would solve this exactly, but some kind of pretreatment does seem to be necessary. I dont even think there is a name for the hericenone F-H compound without the fatty acid side chain.

I am being a bit opaque, because sometimes I have to be for multiple reasons, but rest assured we are taking all this into account in our research. We are absolutely doing cell culture work with individual bioactive compounds themselves, in addition to them grouped together in a mushroom matrix, and also testing mushroom/fungal matrices without any of those bioactives. This paper is going to be really cool. We still need to gather the actual brain cell data, so I am hoping it will show what I think it will, but it will give us some objective data that doesn't exist, regardless.
