I think he got threatened by someone who sells portobello mushrooms once, then blew it up into something it wasn't. It's not out of the realm of possibility that organized crime controls parts of the mushroom industry. The Mexican cartels absolutely control the avocado market. Spanish crime syndicates absolutely control the saffron market. So could some other crime group control portobellos? I guess it is possible. However, we work with people that grow edible mushrooms for the restaurant industry. They are not getting threatened by a portobello mafia. Monterey Mushrooms grows most of the edible mushrooms for the US. I don't think they are threatening Paul Stamets over portobellos.
