So I ordered a Pomella 15g powder that is unopened but has best by date 01/2025. I still want to use it tho.
I remember seeing u/MisterYouAreSoDumb post about how powders have a longer shelf life than what’s mentioned (i.e. the standard 2 years after mfg). Just wondering if it’s the same case here.
Lot: POMS1011323

Thank you so much for the clarification. I’m glad you still keep some stock of supps that don’t sell for the very few to try.
Just wondering what are some signs of degradation for powders that would be noticeable enough to throw away?

Most of the time, if things start to degrade, it usually via oxidation. When things oxidize, they change colors and give off odd smells. Obviously that a gross generalization, but tends to follow most situations. Even then, sometimes we can smell very minute degradation that doesn't actually affect the product. N-acetylcysteine is an example of that. After about 2 years, it starts to smell really bad. However, if you assay it, it seems fine. The degradation products are sulfur-based, though. Your nose is really sensitive to sulfur, so it makes it seem much more degraded than it actually is. Pomella doesn't really have that issue. We've never found much degradation with Pomella at all.
