I want to let everyone know that Derek and I have been conversing about the situation privately. He did let me know that he had to make a video to get in front of the situation, because things were blowing up. However, he stressed to me that his intention was not to sling mud or call us out in any way. He just needed to make some content addressing it because people were really spiraling into a tizzy(My word. Nobody uses tizzy enough these days!), and that not saying anything was just going to make it worse and have people claim he was hiding. He told me not to take anything said in it personally or as an affront to us. He sent me a very long message that feels genuine. A lot was said, but it was said privately to me, so I am going to keep it so. I am going to try and set up a call between us for next week.
Although I really do want to address what those people said in the video, and lots of other facts, I am going to hold off for now. You all know how I am! Not immediately addressing things said about me is not something I usually do. It's unnatural! However, I am going to give Derek a chance to talk things through with me. Hopefully we can turn this into a positive thing for the community, for consumers, and for the standards of this industry as a whole. Derek seems to have a big following, and if I can get him onboard with fixing the broken parts of this industry, it is going to be more productive than just me trying to do it alone. We all know shit is broken and needs to change! I hope that is what ultimately ends up happening in this case. It seems like that is what he wants, so I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. If there is opportunity to bring someone on as ally, and to help make the changes needed in this industry to protect consumers and this community, then I think I have a duty to at least attempt it.
