I've read that NMN supplements are frequently contaminated with LPS (endotoxin) - does ND test for that?

What they were answering

That would be rediculous in most of his interviews he's recommending NMN, barely mentions NR. Is he really affiliated with chromadex? Or is it a different company you're talking about?

David Sinclair founded Metrobiotech. That's the company making the drug MIB-626 and putting it through drug trials. MIB-626 is just regular crystalline NMN. They are also petitioning the FDA to ban NMN as a dietary supplement.

This is no doubt so they can have exclusive rights to sell NMN as a pharmaceutical. David Sinclair also founded Life Biosciences.

This is the company petitioning the FDA to classify aging as a disease, so that any anti-aging compounds would be considered drugs! He thinks he can make a ton of money from it, and wants to block longevity supplements altogether. He recently was an author on a paper about how much money anti-aging drugs could make....

The economic value of targeting aging

We show that a slowdown in aging that increases life expectancy by 1 year is worth US$38 trillion, and by 10 years, US$367 trillion. Ultimately, the more progress that is made in improving how we age, the greater the value of further improvements.

That's a lot of money they think they can make, so they want to close the door on anyone else being able to capitalize on it. Pretty fucking shitty, if you ask me. They just completed an $82M series C funding round, because they think they are going to capitalize on this.

So that is David Sinclair. He's basically the one that popularized NMN and resveratrol. Many people have a lot of respect for him for that. However, it appears he is trying to now monetize things as a pharmaceutical drug and prevent anyone from selling it as a supplement.

The other guy is Dr. Charles Brenner. He's the chief scientific office of Chromadex. They are the ones with nicotinamide riboside patents. They are also the ones that have been putting out bad press on NMN for years. Brenner has been a vocal critic of Sinclair for many years, and a lot of the things he brings up are valid. However, it is all laced with the ulterior motive of selling more NR. When that research paper came out about the discovery of the dedicated NMN transporter, he wrote a ridiculously titled one page rebuttal of it saying they were wrong.

Original paper: Slc12a8 is a nicotinamide mononucleotide transporter

Brenner's ridiculous accusationary response "paper": Absence of evidence that Slc12a8 encodes a nicotinamide mononucleotide transporter

Then the authors of the original Slc12a8 paper replied with actual data: Reply to: Absence of evidence that Slc12a8 encodes a nicotinamide mononucleotide transporter

It's pretty clear that Brenner is trying to discredit NMN in any way he can. Sometimes he does that by attacking Sinclair. Sometimes he does that by writing rebuttals to other author's NMN papers. He goes on long Tweet tirades a lot saying he is just concerned about people's health, and that NMN is not safe...

https://twitter.com/CharlesMBrenner/status/1216861159409758208

He also says you have to get NR from the patent holder, or it is not safe, either! Everything is unsafe unless it is bought from his specific company! He published a paper a few years ago that said that NMN cannot enter cells. It has to convert to NR first, so you should just take NR instead.

NRK1 controls nicotinamide mononucleotide and nicotinamide riboside metabolism in mammalian cells

Then other researchers proved him wrong, and found a specific transporter for NMN. This is why he tried to discredit that paper. He did it on another clinical study for NMN, too.

Comment on “Nicotinamide mononucleotide increases muscle insulin sensitivity in prediabetic women”

He keeps playing the: "I am just looking for the truth and trying to protect consumers!" game, but the tone and style in which he tries to discredit NMN clearly shows his true intentions. As more research comes out on NMN, I fully expect Brenner to be right there with some counter argument or discrediting paper on it. It seems nicotinamide riboside is the hill he wants to die on. Anything that might discredit NMN he seems to jump on and spread.
