Is Berberine safe to use?

So I found this journal made back in 2014 specifying that Berberine may cause double strand DNA breaks in some circumstances and has a pro-oxidative effect in cancer cell lines. I know that this may not necessarily translate to in-vivo human use of the supplement, but is this something that is considered at all when taking it, would have a similar oxidative or DNA damaging effect on healthy cells as well?
If so, how do we go about reducing potential DNA risks to users of Berberine. Any stack recommendations or compounds to better protect DNA while getting the benefit of Berberine?

Not trying to raise the alarm, just want to figure out if this is cause for concern or something that should be touched more upon.

It's been a rollercoaster... Tablets will be back in stock very soon. They are done and in the lab. We were switching to capsules, but those had issues. Then our partner who was doing tablets for us couldn't get them to work, and was switching to slugged capsules. Then I guess they couldn't get that to work and just ran them as tablets like we wanted in the first place. They just showed up as tablets, when we thought they were going to be capsules... Now they are in the lab being tested to make sure they are in spec. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong did.
