I had hoped the supply chain would be more back to normal by now, but it is not.

Not to get too "political", but it's not possible to destroy the global supply chain over a (admittedly somewhat unique) respiratory virus and have things even be close to back to normal within a couple years. Even without the supply shocks the weird demand spikes in things like toilet paper etc alone will cause some wonkiness, but then once you account for all the workers repeatedly forced to isolate due to possible S@RS-2 exposure, the tiny but real percent of people fired for not agreeing to take the pharmaceutical intervention du jour, the fact that issues in one area of the supply chain (say, the delay in unloading containers) propagate issues elsewhere in the chain, the enormous number of small businesses that have permanently closed their doors, the widespread adoption of inefficient and outright pseudoscientific measures for employees [and customers] (e.g. making employees wear cloth masks, erecting plastic dividers up in front of everything, having weird rules about how many people can be in a given space and then everyone goes to the break room and congregates together anyway right afterwards, etc), the suspension of elective surgeries even in the absence of ICUs being full (as happened here in California), the fact that we catalyzed a global regression in poverty and childhood no…

It was hope more than anything. Deep down I knew we would not be back to normal quickly. I was just hoping it would, because the last couple years have been very shitty. I have to go to a funeral tomorrow for my wife's grandfather. He died from complications from COVID...
