NA-R-ALA and Hair Loss

I see a lot of companies selling their R-ALA/NA-R-ALA products 'optimized' with Biotin. It seems many people believe hair loss/brittle nails is a side effect of R-ALA and that biotin can mitigate these side effects.
I'm having trouble finding any evidence supporting or refuting this. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this?

Well, I can confirm that my hair loss has slowed to the normal amount of shedding (Edit: since stopping the optim-ala) but I have not seen any regrowth of what was lost yet. However the speed at witch my hair grows has gone back to normal.
