NA-R-ALA and Hair Loss

I see a lot of companies selling their R-ALA/NA-R-ALA products 'optimized' with Biotin. It seems many people believe hair loss/brittle nails is a side effect of R-ALA and that biotin can mitigate these side effects.

I'm having trouble finding any evidence supporting or refuting this. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this?

I've read that high biotin doses produce acne because they lower vitamin B5.

I have seen that too. Not sure if there is conclusive proof of that yet, though.
