NA-R-ALA and Hair Loss

Original post in this thread

I see a lot of companies selling their R-ALA/NA-R-ALA products 'optimized' with Biotin. It seems many people believe hair loss/brittle nails is a side effect of R-ALA and that biotin can mitigate these side effects.

I'm having trouble finding any evidence supporting or refuting this. Does anyone have knowledge or experience with this?

Interesting. I have been told not to take biotin supplements since investing in laser hair removal. Is it known if biotin promotes new hair growth or if it just strengthens existing hair? I see conflicting information out there about this topic.

Yeah, that is a side effect of too much biotin. The issue is that many supplements are at 10,000mcg dosing, which is super high. I think those are what most people get acne from. I think 1,000mcg or lower is probably a better idea. Also, biotin promotes the growth and thickness of existing hair. Not sure it actually promotes new growth where it wasn't before.

It's a massive frustration of mine with other brands. Sellers will unnecessarily spread doses over multiple capsules to increase capsule counts, to seem like a better value. This is to trick consumers into thinking they
