Natural extracts are always treated as bullshit over here
I used to be like that regarding herbal remedies. In most part because grandmothers who try to stuff you with this plant or that herbal tea aren't basing their advice on any kind of study, and we know how bad we humans are with our biases.
But I've come to realize that... I'm made entirely and exclusively out of the stuff I eat. If what I eat is enough to sustain the innumerable chemical processes that make up my body, why the hell wouldn't there be a herb that improves some very specific aspect of my brain? Hell, caffeine is herbal, and no one would disagree on its efficacy.
I actually had that reflex triggered again when I saw this cherry extract. "Now we're making medicinal extracts out of something growing in my back yard?" Then I realized I was biased to sooner think Chinese and Indian plants had health benefits than something common to me, but there's absolutely no reason for that to be true.

Exactly. Plants are just combinations of chemicals. We are all just combinations of chemicals. It's the standardization and concentration that makes a difference. Then using modern science to understand them and make them better just improves it. Plus, the specific cultivar, growing conditions, and extraction techniques makes a massive difference in the end product. People often forget that species is a broad term. There are many many different cultivars of the "same" plant out there, and many make different compounds. We did almost exclusively synthetics on Ceretropic, and when I had to shut it down and shift more towards naturals, I assumed they would not be as exciting. I was dead wrong.
