L-Theanine Tablet and Fasting
Original post in this thread

Hi,
I've been doing some I.F. recently and only having a cup of black coffee during the mornings (I fast during the daytime - only eat at dinner). Currently, I take my theanine tablet at night, but I was wondering if I could take it with my coffee instead, to get that famous synergy!
I'm fasting for longevity, not for weight, so I was wondering if taking the Theanine would break my fast. Does the tablet contain any fillers? I also know that it's an amino acid, so does that break a longevity fast?
Thank you!! ❤️

Wow! Thanks for the excellent & detailed reply! Interesting that you take 3x Berberine fasted! I thought most take it with meals.
I just have 1 question regarding the amino acid part. I read that L Theanine is structurally similar to glutamine, which seems to be glucogenic. Does this mean L-Theanine glucogenic?
So would it be risky to have it during a fast for longevity without something like Berberine?

Now you're asking the fun questions!
So yes, L-theanine metabolizes into glutamic acid. That glutamic acid can then convert to glutamine, which can eventually become glucose. So the mechanism is there. We would have to do some studies specifically on L-theanine's effects on autophagy to see how significant they are.
