How widespread are fake supplements?

So, a question I haven't seen asked here and one I'm curious in. How many supplements are fake on the market? How many supplements get stored improperly? Is there any kind of U.S or European regulation that tests the supplements for their claims?
I've just recently had Ashwagandha that did good from one brand and Ashwagandha that sucked from another and I want to understand why. One was an extract in a pill and the other was just root powder itself. The extract claimed 5% Withanolides, while the root power didn't claim anything. So could it be that one of my Ashwanadha's just freaking sucked and probably was a scam?
And this doesn't only apply to Ashwagandha, it happens many times, I'd estimate half my supplements to be useless. I usually pay for the cheapest supps, but I live in Europe and thought maybe it'd be regulated?
Also any European brands recommended here? I usually just buy generic brands...
As an example here's a Washington Post article claiming 80% of herbal supplements don't contain the herbs? [https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/02/03/gnc-target-wal-mart-walgreens-accused-of-selling-fake-herbals/](https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mi…

Do you have an opinion on consumerlabs? I buy most of my nootrops from you but you don't have everything I need.

*** Continued from above, since I hit the 10,000 character limit. LOL
I will say that I am a bit disappointed in Ixoreal and Natreon here. They should be making these standardizations more clear BEFORE results come out. That way we can avoid confusion like this. I am working with them to change their mindset on things, though. Open and honest disclosure is always the best. I will eventually find out if things are being hidden, and I will hold people accountable for it. I get their position from a business perspective. Consumers don't know anything, really. They see a % and think higher is better. So you have to play the marketing game. There are ways of doing that openly and honestly, though. That's what I am working toward for the entire industry, and I swear to god I will change it.
If there is something specific you are looking for that we don't carry, let me know and I probably have a lot more info than is publicly available.
