Why is Modafinil considered a "smart-drug" while amphetamines are not considered "smart drugs"?

Modafinil seems to be a stimulant to me, of course Amphetamines such as Adderall and Vyvanse are a lot stronger and harder on the body, but why aren't amphetamines not considered smart drugs while Modafinil, clearly a mild stimulant, is?

I think many people consider amphetamine a smart drug. The main objective difference is that Modafinil has been shown to be neuroprotective, while amphetamine can be neurotoxic. That's all in the dosages, though. Even gradually increasing dosages of amphetamine are neuroprotective to later high doses. Also, low doses of methamphetamine are neuroprotective. So again, it's the dose that makes the poison. Modafinil just does not have the same reinforcing aspects to it. So you are less likely to keep chasing a high, and putting yourself into damaging dose territory. There are no clear cut lines between what is and is not a smart drug. It's all the the details.
