How safe are second generation antihistamines?

How safe are second generation antihistamines (like Zyrtec) for long term brain health and overall health? I am aware that the first gen antihistamines like benadryl are anticholinergic, can lead to alzheimer's and should be avoided. Should I shy away from second gen antihistamines and try to address my allergic rhinitis and nasal congestion without drugs?

It does not work as well as Zyrtec. I've tried to cycle off to it a few times, and it does not keep all my symptoms at bay. The only thing that works every time is Zyrtec. However, even Zyrtec does not stop my airway issues. For that, I have to take Montelukast.
