PSA: Mods of /r/Nootropics Censoring Comments

Original post in this thread

Hi Everyone,

I'm a regular in this subreddit, as well as a few other related subreddits. Recently I've discovered some concerning behavior (censorship) from the mods, that I think is very dangerous to this community. Let me give you an overview of what happened:

1. I create a throwaway account (/u/savorysalamander) (for account cycling), which I do occasionally do to prevent one single account from having too much personably identifiable information avaliable. Obviously IPs are consistent with my other accounts if I don't use a proxy, but this at least makes it more difficult for ordinary Reddit users to DOX.

2. I posted a few comments on this thread, disagreeing with the mods as many other users did in the thread. Nothing inflamatory was posted, and none of my comments broke any rules.

3. The mods deleted my comments. They show up in my profile but not the actual thread.

It doesn't take much thought to realize why this is incredibly dangerous for /r/nootropics users, regardless of whether or not you agree with my comments…

Jesus, dude... You created a brand new account, and the automoderator caught it. Nothing was censored. The mod that made that post, /u/shrillthrill, is on a completely different timezone than the US. So he would not have seen the post you made right away. Also, when the automod deletes a post from a new account, the person that made the post does not see that comment in their inbox; even as a moderator. They have to manually go to the thread, and then they can see the removed post to manually enable. I doubt /u/shrillthrill even saw your comment. He is certainly not one to censor. It's asinine to even think that. He is very big on free discussions. Making up some conspiracy otherwise is just under-informed nonsense.

Furthermore, your conspiracy about conflicts of interest being at play is ridiculous. I use Doctor's Best, and have recommended them many times on here. Also, we use China for most of our syntheses as well. I do not automatically think China is bad, and certainly have nothing against Doctor's Best. No other mods have financial incentives to do anything here. So you making claims like that means you are directly accusing me of something; yet your logic makes zero sense. Why would I recommend Doctor's Best to people if I am censoring things positive about them? Why would I want people to think China is bad, when we use them?!? It's pure insanity... On top of that, I did not even see your damn comments, much less delete them.

Your post is sensationalized BS. You don't understand how Reddit works, and you are lashing out at us because of it. Calm down, and take a step back from your pedestal preaching nonsense. Nobody censored your posts. No mod other than me has an interest in a nootropics company. Unless you think Reddit's automoderator owns a company, and is censoring your 1 day old account for financial reasons... This is extra stupid, because I have personally been down-voted for suggesting Doctor's Best before. So the very person you think is orchestrating this massive conspiracy is actually on your damn side on this particular issue, and has also been down-voted for it. I've used Doctor's Best for years, and recommended them for years.

So to recap, I agree that Doctor's Best being sold to a Chinese company does not automatically mean quality will fall. I have used, and still do on occasion, Doctor's Best products. I recommend some of their stuff all the time. I am the only one on the mod team with a financial interest in a nootropics company, and have not done a thing to your posts. I did not even see your posts till you started freaking out today. Reddit's automoderator removes posts from band new accounts with no history, and they need to be manually approved before they show up. We do not automatically get notified of every post that gets hit by the automoderator, as that would just be a crazy amount of posts. Nothing was censored, and the mod that made that post you commented on is the last one that would be okay with censoring people. Everything you have written was made up in your head to fit your own narrative, and the entire premise for it is ridiculous.
