How do you deal with all this information/mixed advice/info? When do you stop

I agree with the above - go to a well trained board certified physician for your assessment and try to put the research you do read in context. The vast majority of what you have read doesn't apply to you. Furthermore, any link that is suggested in the publications needs to be verified over and over in order for them to even approach credibility. There is no direct mechanism, for instance, linking eating simple carbohydrates and depression or any other psychiatric condition if one consumes a generally healthy diet, exercises, gets adequate sleep and has a solid stress management system. In fact, if you do the aforementioned you will have some of the lowest risk of psychiatric/psychological problems in the world - eating a cake pop will not cause you to be pathologically depressed.

The major component I disagree with that was mentioned above was vitamin D screening - or even serum hormone tests in general. The reality is, the serum test for vitamin D deficiency just isn't that sensitive or specific. In fact, a lot of serum hormone tests are completely useless unless obtained in series over a period of hours to days. A good history and physical exam is the most powerful tool in medicine. Find a physician that asks strong questions and actually does some sort of physical exam on you.

Well a D screening would be able to give him a quick answer if he was dangerously high/low. A blood test is easy. So I don't see a reason not to do it. Allergy tests are a bit harder, but still something that can give useful info. Obviously his doctor would have to make the final call, though.
