Got my first panic attack after two months taking that 500mg rhodiola thing

I've started taking Rhodiola extract 500mg once a day about two months ago. I felt a good improvement in energy in the end of my days. Also felt that the effect of caffeine (from coffee, taken 1-2 times a day) is increased.
Then I've got this panic attack while trying to sleep. I have no particular worries in life, nor phobias. I'm pretty sure it's something related to my rhodiola pills. I'm reading a lot about the subject and it seems we should really care about the dosage. So, be careful about that popular 500mg daily dosage in case you're looking for anxiety reduction. After reading some articles I'll be trying to split my pills in three and take about 166mg in the early morning. It seems to be the recommended dosage for the 'relaxing' side of rhodiola effect. Any related experience would be appreciate.
Btw, the one I take is the 10:1 extract 500mg Rhodiola from Absorb Health, in capsules.

Q: Are you saying it took two months for you to get a panic attack? Do a placebo check and have someone give you a pill for two months then report back. Two months to inhibit MAO is a really long time. I think most people feel the effects of RR almost immediately.
Thanks for the insight. I was wondering why I felt relaxed with Jarrow's Rhodiola and other common highstreet versions. With the one below, similar to the poster's version, I get mentally tensed/stiff. It makes me angry for no reason. Even stimulants, like Methylphenidate, don't do that to me. I can feel pressure in my ears after I take it. However, both make me physically feel better. FYI: Super RR is in-between the Swanson and Jarrow.
Comparison:
* Almost like the poster but this makes me angry, and I notice a huge increase in libdo. This is a Canadian version and I wonder if there's something up with the RR from Canadian suppliers, could be that they're just much stronger than the rest, e.g., it's really cold up there so they make it as strong as possible...
200mg @ 3.5% rosavins and 2.5% salidrosides - http://88herbs.com/product/rhodiola-rosea/
* To date, the smoothest version of RR I've taken is the Swanson extract, it doesn't mess around with stimulants either. Just bliss. Period.
250 mg per cap @ minimum 15% polyphenols and 5% rosavins - http://www.swansonvitamins.com/swan…

Are you talking about our Super Rhodiola? That contains none of the potent MAOIs. So you should not have the interaction issues you can with whole plant material.
Is it necessary to ingest RR to get full benefits from the plant? My stomach isn't so strong I am afraid.
What do you mean is it necessary to ingest it? You could take our Super Rhodiola sublingually, if your stomach cannot handle oral extracts.
Which brand was shown to inhibit MAO(A-B) in the studies?
It was whole plant material gathered by the researchers in Italy, then prepared specifically for the study.
I take it all the compounds are water soluble? If so, I'll try to place it under my tongue and see if I get the same benefits.
No, not all are water soluble. Also, you cannot really take plant material sublingually.
