There isn't too much research on it yet, but it has been shown to be relatively well-tolerated in human subjects, and its effectiveness at treating anemia makes it pretty obvious that it induces erythropoiesis just like other FG class compounds.
Whether or not it works like an oral EPO like some people claim, HIF hydroxylase inhibitors have been shown to increase hippocampal memory in vivo, so clearly some of the effects of exogenous EPO are shown via HIF induced erythropoiesis.
