I'm similar, i was home schooled, haven't had a close friend ever, really. I actually enjoy my isolation, i can do what i want without judgement.
But, as you say, it's a constant fight against biology. My evolutionary instincts tell me i need social interaction. So i turn to drugs to allow me to free myself from Anhedonia and depression and enjoy my isolated life.

You can make good friends who will not judge you. You can also develop the skill of not caring what people think. It may take time to find someone you really connect with, and who accepts you for exactly who you are. However, it is worth it. If you can master the skill of being a honey badger, who doesn't give a shit about anything, that process will go a lot quicker.
I've got a lot of friends, and am around people all the time. I also do whatever I want, whenever I want. Nobody really judges me. The ones that do are probably not secure in who they are as it is, and are projecting. So like the honey badger, I just show my teeth at them, and carry on with my day eating bees and killing cobras.
