I started prescription nortriptyline in an attempt to treat chronic migraines; it also reduced my chronic back pain and muscle pain; constipation is a side effect of the medication and so it was effective against my irritable bowel; it's got some slight anti-bacterial activity and that may explain why it helped with my dry skin problems. Medical doctors insist on breaking down each problem into components and symptoms and insist on discussing and treating the issues as if they are completely disconnected; this is how they are trained; they do not seem capable of having a discussion where the body and mind are treated as a system.

My experience leads me to ask: is it possible that things like migraines, back pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, depression are all disorders on a spectrum of neurotransmitter disorders? but in my experience when I was younger, I would go to the doctor and say things like: it seems like my migraines get worse when I pick up heavy things (it may be a muscle tension problem as well as neurotransmitter) but the doctors would answer me like this: that's impossible. I was 9% body fat and very active when my depression started. I got up to 264lbs at the height of it. Unhealthy lifestyle was not the cause of my depression, but a symptom of it. A lot of people do not understand the difference between a cause and a symptom, so they oversimplify things. Depression is a very complex thing. Hopefully things are going better for you these days!
