How do you avoid the placebo effect when trying new nootropics?

I've had some trouble with trying to accurately identify effects of new substances, because I usually try them after reading about their effects. Any tips?

Convince yourself they are all bullshit ahead of time!

No, the only way is to blind yourself. Not literally, of course.
