Prompted by /u/NellucEcon posting Chronic nicotine consumption causes dynorphin/KOR upregulation (2012) over [here](/r/Nootropics/comments/2skosf/chronic_nicotine_consumption_causes_dynorphinkor/) with a comment on the negative side effects of pure nicotine, where I wrote:
Based my experience of nicotine gum overuse I fell into nicotine dependence. I was also part of a study on nicotine gum addiction (Etter JF if you were interested in the researcher. research not yet published). Withdrawal was stressful and it was probably months before I felt normal again. At least one other person has reported the same thing around here (/r/nootropics).
I decided to ignore the matter of that publication and look at what else has recently been said about remedying negative effects of nicotine. Found some interesting (may be useful aside from nicotine) stuff that I'm lumping together in this post rather than posting the studies individually.
Before someone says "nicotine isn't addictive without a maoi": the picture doesn't look so clear in the animal model ([different side effects in different strains of mice](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed…

That seems very cool. Quite interested in that, the structure doesn't look like it would be too difficult to synth. Wonder if /u/MisterYouAreSoDumb has any views on it as he seems to be able to get things synthed haha. Though I imagine he's rather inundated with that sort of stuff, so many compounds.

There are a few nicotine and caffeine alternatives that I am working on. Cotinine was one I was reading about. But I have to slow down on things for a bit. I got a little too ahead of myself with new compounds. Haha
