For those that have tried both is there any noticeable difference in terms of efficacy and side effects?

I always wondered about that. I figured that a free base would cross membrane more readily, but also be broken down by enzymes far more quickly. Hence, the sub route would be better for a free base.

Am I correct with that train of thought?

Yeah, that is what I would assume as well. The freebase seemed more potent when I was using both sublingually. That makes sense, since there is no weight of the phosphate group.
