Semax and Sleep

Original post in this thread

Flinthearted · 16 points

For context, I have always needed a ton of sleep--9+ hours a night to feel fully rested.

Last week I started taking Semax. Not every day, but most days, usually around noon. On days that I've taken it, I've felt far sleepier than normal in the evening and fallen asleep with ease. But around 6 hours later, I'll wake up feeling completely bright and alert, but with the paradoxical feeling that I REALLY need to sleep more.

Sometimes I'll be able to fall back asleep and instantly go back into deep dreaming, only to wake up again and repeat the cycle several times over the next hour or two. But other times, like this morning, I'll be unable to go back to sleep, and just have to wait for the need to die down. And then in the evening I'll get much sleepier than normal, much earlier.

What's going on? Has anyone else had a similar experience? My sleep seemed "deeper" my first night on Semax, but that effect has lessened.

Oh, and as for the primary effects: hands down the best nootropic I have tried, and I have tried a lot. I've mainly been stacking it with Selank, which accentuates the effects if you're prone to anxiety like me. Clear-headed calmness, focus, stamina. Similar in effect…

I've only skipped the selank one day, which was a strange day in so many other ways that I can't draw any reasonable conclusions from it. Perhaps I should skip one or the other a few more days and see what happens.

And I wouldn't call them "sleep issues", exactly. My sleep isn't bad, in fact it's quite good--just markedly different, to the point that I'm somewhat worried that it isn't as good as it seems. Sorta like how sleep on weed feels great for the first couple weeks, until slowly you realize it's been far less restorative than sober sleep.
